Stargazing Live, BBC 1.
That icon of Astronomy, Sir Patrick Moore, has dominated our screens for over half a century with ‘The Sky at Night’. It’s been a long time coming, but the BBC eventually discovered a new star, in the shape of Professor Brian Cox.
A Physicist, with looks, intelligence and a smile that burns as bright as a meteorite. I might have fallen for him but ‘Stargazing Live’ didn’t quite hit the spot. That’s no reflection on Prof. Cox (OBE), more about his co-host.
Did they think that the absence of Sir Patrick would leave us bereft of a rapidly speaking amateur astronomer? Enter Dara O’Briain, apparently Britain’s favourite Irishman.
As heir apparent to Sir Terry Wogan, another broadcasting icon, Dara needs to take note of his delivery and slow down. The subject is hard enough to follow without struggling to understand the presenter.
